Pond Construction

1. What are the advantages of a garden pond or biopool?

A garden pond or biopool is a natural oasis of peace and beauty in your garden. Besides its aesthetic appeal, it brings an ecosystem full of life – aquatic plants, fish, and wildlife. Biopools also allow natural swimming without chemicals in clean, living water, where filtration is ensured by plants and biological filters.

2. What is the ideal depth for a garden pond?

For decorative ponds, we recommend a minimum depth of 80–100 cm, and for fish breeding ideally 120–150 cm. Biopools usually have a swimming area depth of 1.5–2 meters to ensure natural oxygenation and prevent overheating in summer. This depth provides more stable water temperature during winter and better conditions for the fish.

3. Where is the best place to locate a pond in the garden?

The ideal location is a partially shaded spot that protects the water from overheating, excessive evaporation, and excessive algae growth. It is important to avoid placing the pond under deciduous trees, where fallen leaves can worsen the water quality. When choosing the location, consider easy access for maintenance and the overall aesthetic effect in the garden.

4. Do I need a building permit for a pond?

Most small garden ponds up to 25 m² usually do not require a building permit. Larger projects should always be consulted with local authorities. Our company is happy to assist you throughout the entire permit approval process.

Technology and filtration

1. What type of filtration is best for clear water in a pond?

A combination of biological filtration (plants) and technical filtration (mechanical filters, UV lamps) is the ideal solution for crystal-clear water. We use proven technology from our partner OASE, ensuring high filtration efficiency with minimal maintenance.

2. Which filtration plants do you recommend?

Underwater, we recommend plants such as water hyacinths, water lilies, soft rushes, elodea, and cladophora algae balls. These absorb excess nutrients, compete with algae, and help maintain biological balance in the water.

3. What role do UV lamps play in water purification?

UV-C lamps destroy single-celled algae, bacteria, and cloudiness, helping to maintain clear water. Combined with biological filtration, they provide a highly effective and eco-friendly cleaning system without the use of chemicals.

4. Is it necessary to keep the filtration running continuously during winter?

During the winter period, if the depth is sufficient and proper winterizing is done, filtration does not need to run. However, in summer, we recommend continuous operation for stable water quality.

Maintenance and care

1. How to prevent algae growth in the pond?

Prevention includes proper filtration, good planting, regular removal of organic debris, and monitoring nutrient levels. Thanks to the synergy of OASE technology and our experience, we can minimize algae growth without the need for chemicals.

2. How often should the pond be cleaned?

With a properly designed system, regular visual checks and seasonal sediment cleaning once or twice a year are sufficient. The biological ecosystem and filtration handle the rest.

3. What should I do with the pond in winter?

Before winter, we recommend removing fallen leaves, checking the technology, cleaning the pond bottom, and ensuring proper winterizing according to the filtration type.

4. Is it possible to design the pond to be as low-maintenance as possible?

Yes, thanks to many years of experience, we design ponds with minimal maintenance. The key is quality filtration design, appropriate planting, and professional construction.

Fish and safety

1. How many fish can I keep in the pond?

We recommend a maximum of 2–3 fish per 1 m³ of water, depending on the fish species, pond size, and filtration capacity. For koi carp, a larger water area and stronger filtration are necessary.

2. What types of fish are suitable for a natural pool or garden pond?

The most common fish we keep are koi carp, goldfish, and sturgeons. In natural pools, we ensure that the fish do not disturb the swimming area.

3. Is the pond safe for children?

Safety is our top priority. We can design solutions such as gentle slopes, protective nets, railings, or shallow areas specifically for children.

4. What should I do if I have cats or other animals in the garden?

With proper design, we can minimize risks (e.g., adequate depth, fish shelters, and barriers against birds).

Process and permits

1. How does the pond construction process proceed from the first contact to the finished project?

We start with a personal consultation, prepare a design and visualization, secure the technology, and then proceed with the actual construction under our expert supervision. After completion, we offer maintenance and long-term support.

2. How long does pond construction take?

Depending on the project size, construction usually takes 1–3 weeks. Larger projects require individual planning.

3. Do you also assist with the design and planning of the pond?

Yes. We comprehensively handle the design, visualizations, and selection of suitable technologies. Every project is tailored to your needs.

4. Do I need any special permits for the pond?

Most smaller garden ponds fall under permit-free construction. For larger projects, we assist clients in obtaining the necessary permits.

Prices and services

1. How much does the construction of a pond or natural pool cost?

The price depends on the size, chosen technologies, terrain, and type of construction. We prepare an individual price offer for each client. However, our ponds represent a long-term investment for decades. To request a price offer, click HERE.

2. Do you also offer regular service and maintenance?

Yes. We provide customers with seasonal maintenance, cleaning, filtration checks, winterizing, and expert advice throughout the year.
